Technology
Gigafin RDX™
All Gigafin products are powered by Gigafin’s RDX 2000 system on chip (SoC). RDX 2000 is based on Gigafin’s multi-patented Reloadable Direct Execution (RDX) technology -- a unique computing architecture not used in any other networking product. Designed by experienced network and semiconductor professionals, RDX delivers unparalleled performance and cost advantages – 15 times the price-to-performance than similar performing-products.RDX is designed from the ground up to do the single-most important task network appliances need and do it like no other: process data packets. RDX 2000’s 16-cores of patented hardware-based packet processors read every incoming packet, process them in parallel, classify their type, then forward or drop the packet based on configured policies.
Other Gigafin RDX SoC features include:
- Just 1-2 clock cycles to process data packets
- Spans 0 to 4 Gbps throughput in a single chip
- Maximum performance maintained independent of:
- Packet type and size
- Features running
- Configuration load
- Consumes a maximum of just 15 Watts of power
Other Products
In contrast, virtually all other networking products use the same microcontrollers or microprocessors used by PCs, tablets, phones and other electronic devices. The architecture in these processors and controllers is designed to work generically with any application – nothing particular or special to networking equipment needs. The result is:- Data packet processing occurs in software
- Packets are processed sequentially
- 10-100s of clock cycles are required to process packets
- Increasingly faster (and costlier) chips are required to increase performance
- Performance degrades as:
- Packet size shrinks
- Features are enabled
- Configuration load increases
- Consume hundreds of Watts of power (resulting in associated cooling)
The RDX Advantage
Gigafin customers enjoy the benefit of unique, dedicated, network-specific designed products that deliver:- Low-cost – Gigabit performance at Megabit prices
- Zero performance degradation – Zero latency to applications
- No constant hardware upgrades – One device for any network
- Use at the network edge (WAN) – Or in the LAN
- Energy cost savings – Industry’s only green solution
