GigaFin Networks' CTO Kevin Rowett to Speak on Application of RDX Technology for Distributed Packets Analysis on High Speed LANs

Based on a Ground Breaking Direct Execution Architecture, GigaFin RDX Technology Named a Finalist in Info Security Products Guide 2008 Global Excellence Awards

CUPERTINO, Calif. - November 12, 2007 — Gigafin Networks, the leader in high performance security and traffic management solutions for datacenters, today announced that CTO Kevin Rowett, a 20-year veteran of the computer and networking industry, will be speaking at SC07 in Reno, Nevada. His presentation will describe the implementation of a hardware-based parser and direct execution processor tailored for analyzing packets flowing on high speed LANs. He will also discuss the benefits of this technology in the distributed analysis of high performance networks, which allows for increased security and network optimization.

Kevin is an accomplished technologist and architect with extensive experience in both computing systems and networking ranging from servers and storage to VoIP switching and multi-Gigabit routing. Kevin's background spans companies from Force10 Networks and CacheFlow (now Blue Coat Systems), to Cisco Systems, Tandem, Boeing Corporation and IBM. As one of the founders of GigaFin Networks, he continues to expand the technological boundaries of processor architectures to solve issues facing complex, high performance networks.

"Techniques and software have matured in recent times for determining and tracking application layer activity, such as P2P traffic, VoIP, and malware propagation, on a LAN," states Rowett. "However, these techniques all depend upon seeing limited payload data of every packet traversing the network and require expensive hardware, with custom tuned software, limiting deployment to the core of a network. In contrast, the problems of security, network performance and application optimization lie within every part of the network. Using direct execution technology allows an inexpensive, high performance solution to be distributed through the network, removing the barriers to more effective network design."

Traditional perimeter defense and network optimization architecture is no longer a viable option for datacenters consisting of many complex internal networks and server farms running at Gigabit speeds. Due to the nature of datacenter networks, solutions must offer scalability, reliability and a compelling total cost of ownership. GigaFin Networks solutions offer the most power efficient, compact form factor appliances for monitoring network behavior, optimizing network performance and defending infrastructure from attack at Gigabit speeds.

GigaFin Networks' product lines, FlowLine and SlimLine, are based on the GigaFin RDX (formerly MT2010) direct execution technology which has been chosen as a finalist in the 2008 Global Excellence in Firewall Solution by Info Security Products Guide, the world's leading publication on security-related products and technologies. Info Security Products Guide's prestigious global awards recognize security and IT vendors with advanced, ground-breaking products and solutions that are helping set the bar higher in all areas of technologies. The GigaFin Networks RDX was selected as a finalist by more than 11,000 voters worldwide consisting of end-users, channel partners and readers of Info Security Products Guide. Vendors themselves were not permitted to vote for their products. With over 45 categories, Info Security Products Guide awards are the largest worldwide security recognition from Silicon Valley.

"We're honored that our innovative RDX technology has been recognized for the advancements it brings to network security," says William Thomas, CEO of GigaFin Networks. "Behind this distinguished success is our relentless drive to stay focused on our customers' needs in the service provider and academic segments. This recognition from Info Security Products Guide is a clear indication that we are designing the right solutions for our customers, while addressing the needs of the broader marketplace as well."

The 2008 Global Product Excellence and Outstanding Award winners will be honored on January 30, 2008 at Technosium 2008 during the Info Security Products Guide Global Awards ceremony at the Santa Clara Convention Center located in Silicon Valley, California, USA.
